- I parked my car at this parking lot -- operated by Westco Parking Service -- off of Louise St and Broadway in Glendale today. There was no attendant when I arrived, and I ran to a neighboring business to get change to pay the machine. When I returned one minute later, a parking lot attendant -- who told me his name was Tony -- handed me a "parking violation" ticket for 72 dollars. He then told me that he would cancel the ticket if I gave him 24 dollars cash. Thinking that this was a government parking ticket, I stupidly gave him the 24 dollars. I tried to call Westco Parkin's number to complain about this, but the phone number on their sign doesn't work anymore, and they don't have an email address or website.
I didn't realize that this was an illegal ticket from a private business. The Attorney General of CA says that "Private property owners may not acquire, by means of issuing a written warning or posting signage, the right to issue parking citations imposing monetary sanctions to the owners of vehicles parked on their property." vice.com/read/private-pa…
If this place tickets you, you do NOT have to pay it. And don't fall for this 24 dollar scam either. This parking attendant, Tony, was very rude, aggressive, and runs an unethical shakdown. 0/5 stars.
