- Whilst attempting to pay my parking fee last week, I was required to download an app to enable the payment to be made on my smartphone. My first attempt was not successful as another unrelated app appeared out of the blue. I tried again with the app shown on the parking meter board and managed to pay the fee the second time. On my return home a few days later I happened to check my bank statement. There were two strange entries on the statement with payments of £1.49 and then a few days later £29.99 to a company called UB-Fun (a U.S. based company). On querying these payments with my bank I was asked by the fraud department if I had recently paid for parking. I confirmed that I had. It appears that there is a scam operating where other apps are popping up whilst you try to pay using a bona fide app. This machine at Manvers Street was the only one I used which required an app so this must be one of those machines which may be prone to scams. Please be vigilant if downloading an app for the first time at this machine.
